Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government today ordered the district police chiefs to open the registration counter in their offices at the earliest. The police have been directed to file complain as soon as the complainant approaches the police station irrespective of the individual’s religion, caste or creed.

The district police chiefs have to open the FIR registration at the earliest to facilitate all those people who were made to do several rounds of police stations for lodging complaint.

The order that was issued by the Home department stated that the pointless delay in filing complaint created a negative thinking about the government among the people who when turned down at police station have to appeal to court to lodge FIRs.

In its manifesto released before assembly polls, BJP had promised ‘fearless atmosphere’ and stressed that FIRs would be registered in its regime without any bias. The most populous state which also has the largest police force, fares poorly when it comes to registration of criminal cases. In Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala, more number of FIRs are registered than UP in a year.
