DMK-led alliance claims governor of Tamil Nadu attempting to appease BJP leadership

The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance claimed that Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi should resign if he wants to "express views to BJP leadership.

Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance claimed that Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi should resign if he wants to “express views to please the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership for a higher position” or to “draw attention towards him.”

The governor was criticised for his remarks on Sanatan Dharma, Thirukkural, and colonialism on numerous occasions.

Additionally, the matter took a U-turn when the governor lashed out at the state government over the October 23 Coimbatore blast and its failure to promptly submit the Coimbatore bombing case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

“His (Ravi’s) speeches have weight because he is the governor of the state. If he is speaking out to appease the BJP leadership in order to get a higher position for himself, it is a dangerous act.

The coalition parties described the governor’s opinion on Sanatan Dharma, Dravidam, Schedule Castes, and Thirukkural as “dangerous”.

They also criticised the governor for promoting a single religion. The governor always talks about a particular religion, and the fact is that the Constitution of India talks about secularism, the statement said.

“As per the Constitution, the country is secular. But the governor argues in favour of one religion, “the statement said.
