Double header in today’s IPL a gift for cricket fans; SRH’s winning streak continues

Sunrisers Hyderabad have made it their habit to pounce on their opponents like wounded tigers after an initial two-match debacle. The franchise did the same in yesterday’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders, thrashing them by seven wickets in the 18th over.

It seems the SRH batters have got expertise in chasing down the target and winning all three matches in almost identical fashion. Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram executed their innings superbly. Their sublime innings helped the team cross the line with ease.

MI aiming first IPL victory

The action-packed IPL has two high-voltage matches on the card today. The late-afternoon match will be a do or die situation for the Mumbai Indians. The five-time champion side, having lost their previous matches, are looking to register their first victory in this afternoon’s match. MI is ready to give a stiff challenge to LSG at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

The Lucknow Super Giants are performing decently on the field, winning three out of five matches. The team needs to raise the standard of the game to know the trick of winning close games. As LSG was a bit unlucky against RR and fell three runs short of the target.

The match will kick off in the afternoon, and the heat has been soaring in Mumbai. Both sides need to keep their energy intact till the end. It is going to be a run-feast. The toss is not likely to play any vital role in this match.

The Mumbai Indians’ lacklustre show reminded cricket fans of the 2014 and 2015 editions of the IPL, where MI lost five and four matches in a row, respectively.

The Rohi Sharma led side has to solve all issues before the match, otherwise today’s failure may end the road of MI in this IPL. KL Rahul should not experiment much, specially in the batting order, as it proved detrimental in the match against RR. The confidence level of LSG is higher than MI.

RCB takes on DC in another match

The second match tonight will be between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Both the frachises are struggling with injuries and non-availability of several key players. The teams are busy finalising their strategies for today’s crucial encounter.

Two prominent players from DC are likely to miss today’s encounter. The absence of adequate replacements for Mitchell Marsh and Anrich Nortje has increased the challenge for the DC. Marsh, as an allrounder, plays a vital role in the top order and chips in with overs. Nortje is known for his sheer pace, and their absence has put extra pressure on Rishabh Pant.

Faf du Plessis has to lead from the front and keep the team’s mindset positive. Virat Kohli has been getting criticism from all corners for his lack of runs. Time has come for the champion batter to shut the mouths of his critics and strike with the bat.

RCB have a dubious distinction in this IPL of conceding the most sixes so far, 54, while DC have conceded the least sixes, 24. Prithvi Shaw is the most dominating batsman in the powerplay phase, having a remarkable strike rate of 167 and averaging 112 runs.

Cricket fans have a chance to capitalise on Saturday’s off with two absorbing battles on the ground. It would be a feast to see the live action and enjoy the match. It seems like both matches are going to be a seasaw battle.
