A 27-year-old woman in her suicide note claimed that her husband and in-laws had repeatedly tormented her for dowry. Police filed a case against culprits.
Chennai: In her suicide note, a 27-year-old woman claimed that her husband and in-laws had repeatedly tormented her for dowry . The police have filed a case against seven people, including her husband, on the basis of the note.
The victim, Afsa, 27, tied the knot with Dasthekar, her boyfriend,a year ago. According to reports, the marriage took place after both families gave their blessings. Afsa, however, claimed in her suicide letter that she had been frequently abused for dowry by her husband and in-laws.
Afsa delivered a baby girl two months ago. She claimed in the suicide note that ever since her husband’s family objected to her having a girl child, she had been under a lot of stress.
Afsa has mentioned in his letter that she lived with her husband for only a week after their marriage. Besides this, her in-laws used to beat her on a regular basis for dowry. In the letter, she said that all the dowry had already been given to her in-laws.
This includes 50 sovereign gold, a Royal Enfield bike, and Rs 1 lakh cash, which could be retrieved and given to her newborn baby girl for the child’s future. Afsa stated that all these things had been snatched away by her in-laws’ family.
She further alleged that her husband used to physically torture her on the advice of her sister-in-law. She mentioned in her letter that she had attempted suicide several times previously.
