Ahmedabad: Droupadi Murmu, the National Democratic Alliance’s presidential nominee, landed in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon and had a meeting with BJP MLAs and other party leaders from the state.
She was received at the Ahmedabad airport by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state BJP chief C R Paatil. She had been visiting the state to seek support for her candidature for the upcoming presidential election scheduled to be held on Monday.
During the discussion with the BJP MLAs and other leaders, Droupadi Murmu shared the dias along with CM Patel and state BJP chief Paatil at a plush hotel in Ahmedabad.
Some of the MLAs said they were happy to have a woman candidate from a tribal community as the NDA’s presidential candidate and would ensure she wins with a huge majority.
Former state chief minister Vijay Rupani said, “I believe it is a matter of pride for all of us.”
All the BJP MLAs from Gujarat are happy that a tribal woman is set to be the next president of the country. All of them have promised to support her so that she can win by a huge margin.
As part of a campaign, the opposition’s presidential nominee, Yashwant Sinha, visited Gujarat on July 8 to seek the support of the Congress MLAs from the state.
