New Delhi: In the last one month, there have been several incidents in SpiceJet Airlines that have caused inconvenience to many. Dubai-Madurai flight of SpiceJet was delayed on Monday after the Boeing B737 Max aircraft’s nose wheel malfunctioned, Directorate General of Civil Aviation officials said.
“SpiceJet flight SG23 from Dubai to Madurai on July 11 was delayed due to a technical snag,” the airline said. “An alternate aircraft has been arranged to operate the flight, which will depart from Dubai at 6.35 pm (local time). Flight delays can happen with any airline. There has been no incident or security scare on this flight.”
DGCA officials said a Boeing B737 MAX aircraft with registration number VT-SZK operated the Madurai-Dubai flight on Monday. After the plane landed, an engineer inspected and found that the nose wheel strut was compressed more than usual, he said. That’s why the engineer decided to land the plane, officials said. He said the airline sent another flight from Mumbai to Dubai to operate the return Dubai-Madurai flight.
The DGCA had sent a show-cause notice to SpiceJet after eight incidents of technical snag in its aircraft since June 19. The aviation regulator said the budget carrier has “failed” to establish safe, efficient and reliable air services. It further said, “Poor internal safety oversight and inadequate maintenance action (as most of the incidents are related to either component failure or system-related failure) has resulted in degradation of the safety margins.”
