Due to bad weather, Kolkata-bound KKR flights diverted twice, team stays in Varanasi overnight

Varanasi: Due to bad weather, the KKR team's flight from Lucknow to Kolkata was diverted to Guwahati late on Monday night. However, an hour later at when it was ready to take off from Guwahati, at 1:20 AM it was diverted again and the table-toppers are currently in Varanasi.

Varanasi: Due to bad weather, the KKR team’s flight from Lucknow to Kolkata was diverted to Guwahati late on Monday night. However, an hour later at when it was ready to take off from Guwahati, at 1:20 AM it was diverted again and the table-toppers are currently in Varanasi.

On Sunday, KKR team played their last match in Lucknow, will play against Mumbai Indians at home on Saturday, May 11, so they have a few days before their next match and the weather has troubled them. As per the latest update, the Knight Riders will attempt another flight in the afternoon after staying in Varanasi overnight.

On social media platform X, the first update from KKR at 9:34 pm said, “Travel update: KKR’s charter flight from Lucknow to Kolkata diverted to Guwahati due to bad weather. The flight is currently parked at Guwahati airport. More updates will be provided soon.” At 10:11 pm they were ready to fly from Guwahati to Kolkata.

After that the next update said,”Update at 1:20 AM: Flight diverted to Varanasi after another failed attempt at landing in Kolkata due to bad weather. Current status: At the Lal Bahadur Shastri International airport tarmac.”

At last the final update said,”Update at 3:00 AM: KKR team would be checking into Varanasi hotel for overnight stay. Return flight to Kolkata TBD on Tuesday (7 May) afternoon. Stay safe, Kolkata.”

Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders team has shown excellent performance so far. The team is at the top of the points table with 16 points. KKR are scheduled to play against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on May 19 in what will be their final league stage match but they did not know they would be landing in the city 12 days ago.

KKR has played 11 matches, which includes 8 wins and 3 losses. Now if KKR wins even one of the remaining three matches, it will directly qualify for the playoffs. Kolkata’s remaining three matches are against Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals.
