Due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, 6 killed in southern districts of West Bengal

West Bengal: Six people died due to heavy rain and storm in the southern districts of West Bengal on Monday. On Monday morning, the sky was cloudy in most of the districts of South Bengal including Kolkata. A Disaster Management Department official said six people, including a married couple, died in different districts of south Bengal, including in Nadia, Purulia and Purba Bardhaman district.

West Bengal: Six people died due to heavy rain and storm in the southern districts of West Bengal on Monday. On Monday morning, the sky was cloudy in most of the districts of South Bengal including Kolkata. About this incident, a Disaster Management Department official said six people, including a married couple, died in different districts of south Bengal, including in Nadia, Purulia and Purba Bardhaman district.

According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, rain was expected in almost all the southern districts. It was said that heavy rain may occur in four districts. An official said that due to heavy rain, Suburban train services on the Sealdah-Canning line of Eastern Railway’s Sealdah division were affected for over an hour as banana leaves fell on the overhead electric traction wires during the storm.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) sources said that due to bad weather, some flights coming to Kolkata from other places had to be diverted. They said that due to bad weather, three flights coming to Kolkata – two from Delhi and one from Bagdogra – had to be diverted to other airports. The Meteorological Department said, the cyclone is present in South Jharkhand and adjoining areas. In view of this, water vapor wind is coming rapidly from the Bay of Bengal.

As a result, there may be rain with thunder in North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, East Burdwan, Birbhum on Monday. Along with this, strong winds can also blow at a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour. The Met Department has forecast thunderstorms in the region till May 10.

The weather office said a cyclonic circulation over south Jharkhand and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal will bring thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in various districts of West Bengal. Heavy rain may occur in Nadia, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas. Orange alert issued in these districts. There is a possibility of rain with thunder in the remaining districts of South Bengal. Winds can blow at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers. Yellow alert has been issued there.

The maximum temperature in Kolkata was 43 degrees Celsius on April 30, the highest in 50 years, according to the weather office. There may be heavy rain in East Medinipur, South 24 Parganas. There is also a possibility of rain with thunder in the rest of the southern districts. Parts of almost all districts of South Bengal are likely to receive rain on Wednesday.
