Earthquake Death Toll: Death toll from earthquake in Turkey and Syria exceeds 50 thousand, millions homeless

Turkey: The death toll from the February 6 earthquakes in Turkey and Syria exceeded 50,000 on Friday. According to information, more than 44,000 people have died from the earthquake in Turkey alone. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey rose to 44,218 on Friday night. At the same time, the death toll from the earthquake in Syria reached 5,914. Also, the combined death toll in both countries rose above 50,000.

Turkey: The death toll from the February 6 earthquakes in Turkey and Syria exceeded 50,000 on Friday. According to information, more than 44,000 people have died from the earthquake in Turkey alone. Turkey’s Interior Minister Soylu said in an interview with state broadcaster TRT late on Wednesday that rescue operations are underway in two buildings in Hatte province, which was badly hit by the earthquake. Teams are continuously examining the bodies. However, he added that the search operation at other places has ended.

Turkey’s Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum said 1,64,000 buildings have either collapsed or been damaged by the devastating earthquake. Meanwhile, local civil defense in northwest Syria said thousands of children and thousands of families have taken shelter in cars and tents amid fears of another earthquake in the country.
