New Delhi: On Monday afternoon, Nearly 20 people were killed and at least 300 others sustained injuries after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Indonesia. “The information I got for now, in this hospital alone, nearly 20 died and at least 300 people are being treated. Most of them had fractures from being trapped by the ruins of buildings,” the head of Cianjur’s administration, Herman Suherman, told broadcaster Metro TV.

According to information received from Indonesia’s Meteorological and Geophysics Agency, the earthquake depth was 10.0 km below the ground and occured around 11:51:10. Cianjur in West Java was the epicenter of the earthquake, according to official reports from Indonesia’s Meteorology and Geophysics Agency BMKG.

Buildings started shaking due to the earthquake, after which people came out of their houses and came out on the streets. During this people felt vibrations on the roads for several seconds. Some TV broadcasters showed several buildings in Cianjur with their roofs collapsed. The country’s meteorological agency warned residents near the quake to watch out for more tremors as a 5.6 magnitude quake hit the country, killing at least 20. The casualty is expected to rise.
