Cairo: In yet another fire incident that erupts at Coptic church in Egypt. A stampede broke out after a massive fire broke out in an Egyptian church. 41 people have died in this accident. The Coptic Church of Egypt says at least 41 people have been killed and 14 injured after a fire broke out at a church in Cairo. The church, citing health officials for the casualties, said the fire started in the densely populated area of ​​Imbaba, Abu Cefeen Church.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Police said that in the preliminary investigation, an electrical short-circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire. The statement said that the fire started on Sunday morning when the meeting was going on. Fifteen fire tenders have been dispatched to the spot to douse the fire while the injured were taken to nearby hospitals through ambulances. Fire officials later said that the fire has been brought under control.

President expressed condolences
The president’s office said President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi spoke on the phone with Coptic Christian Pope Tawadros II and offered his condolences. Al-Sisi wrote on Facebook, “I am closely monitoring the developments of this tragic accident. I directed all relevant state agencies and institutions to take all necessary measures and deal with this accident and its effects immediately.”

Coptic Christians are the largest Christian community in the Middle East, accounting for at least 10 million of Egypt’s 103 million people. Coptic Christians have faced attacks here and have long complained of discrimination in this majority Muslim North African country.

Egypt has faced many horrific fire accidents in recent years. In March 2021, at least 20 people were killed in a fire at a garment factory in the eastern suburb of Cairo. In 2020, 14 corona patients died in two hospital fires.
