An infant and a woman lost their lives, while five other individuals suffered injuries. The collapse occurred shortly after midnight on a Sunday, marking a devastating event for the community.
The building that collapsed was a single-storey structure containing six flats. It was situated on Durga Road in the Dhobi Talao area of Bhiwandi town. The sudden collapse occurred at 12:35 am. As soon as authorities received the alert, emergency response teams, including the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) and firefighters from the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation, swiftly responded to the scene to initiate rescue operations. Their prompt actions were aimed at rescuing individuals trapped in the debris and providing immediate assistance to the victims of this tragic incident.
A search operation was carried out during the night, resulting in the rescue of seven individuals from the debris. Tragically, an eight-month-old girl named Taslima Mosar Momin and a 40-year-old woman named Uzma Atif Momin lost their lives in the collapse. Among the injured were four women and a 65-year-old man. Thankfully, they were admitted to a local hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.
The search and rescue operation, as well as the clearance of debris, were completed by approximately 3:30 am. At present, it is not known how old the building was or whether it was listed as a dangerous structure prior to the collapse. This incident highlights the importance of building safety inspections and maintenance to prevent such tragic accidents.
