In 2023, Ekta Kapoor will be bestowed with the International Emmy Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York. Ekta Kapoor will be the first Indian woman to receive this honor.

Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor to Receive International Emmy Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York in 2023. Ekta Kapoor will be the first Indian woman to achieve this honor. She will be recognized for her contributions to the Indian television industry and for co-founding Balaji Telefilms production house.This was announced today by Bruce L. Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In 1994, Ekta Kapoor embarked on the journey of Balaji Telefilms alongside her parents, Jeetendra Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. While Jeetendra Kapoor is an actor and producer, Shobha Kapoor works as a media executive. After the inception of the satellite TV industry in India in 1959, Ekta Kapoor made significant contributions to television content through her shows. Under the Balaji banner, she produced more than 17,000 hours of television shows and around 45 films. Additionally, she also launched India’s first OTT platform, ALT Balaji.

On this occasion, Ekta Kapoor expressed her feelings, saying, “Receiving this honor has filled me with humility and deep enthusiasm. This award holds a special place in my heart as it symbolizes a journey that goes beyond work—it’s a significant aspect of my personal and professional life. Representing my country on the global stage through this platform is truly an honorable moment for me. Television has played a crucial role in helping me discover my identity.”

Most of Balaji’s shows cater to general entertainment broadcasters as channel operators. Balaji has won nearly every major television award. Kapoor has been listed as one of Asia’s 50 Most Powerful Women by Fortune India.
