Election Commission announces ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh to families of two IRB jawans killed in Gujarat

The Election Commission (EC) of India announced on Monday that it would hand over an ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh to the families of two Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel who were killed on election duty in a village close to Porbandar in Gujarat.

Porbandar: The Election Commission (EC) of India announced on Monday that it would hand over an ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh to the families of two Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel who were killed on election duty in a village close to Porbandar in Gujarat.

The IRB jawans had been deployed in Porbandar district, where the first phase of polling will take place on December 1.

“ECI sanctions Rs 15 lakh each as ex-gratia compensation to the heirs of two jawans of the 3rd Indian Reserve Battalion, SAP-1445, killed in a firing at Porbandar,” the commission tweeted on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday at around 7 o’clock, when a rifleman named Inaucha Singh is accused of firing shots at his colleagues with his service weapon after an argument. Two personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion, identified as Havildar Thoiba Singh, who was commissioned to the 3rd IRB, Manipur SAP-1445, and constable Jitendra Singh from the 4th IRB, Rohitkanta, Manipur, died. Meanwhile, two others sustained injuries in the incident.
