The much-awaited Lok Sabha election dates are set to be disclosed by the Election Commission of India during a press conference scheduled for March 16 at 3 pm. Alongside, the assembly election dates for Odisha, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh will also be announced.
Anticipated to unfold in seven to eight phases, the Lok Sabha polls have garnered immense attention. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, alongside newly appointed Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, will reveal the polling schedule.
The press briefing will be available via livestream for public access. Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh assumed office following the resignation of Arun Goel, a development that surprised many. Former bureaucrats Kumar and Singh emerged from a selection process that saw them chosen from a pool of six candidates.
Their appointment followed the departure of Anup Chandra Pandey, who retired upon reaching the age of 65. Their induction came after deliberations within a three-member high-level selection panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
With the NDA-led BJP seeking a third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress-led INDIA alliance is poised for a robust challenge, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral contest.
