Eminent economist Amartya Sen, 89, tests Covid positive, undergoing treatment at his home

New Delhi: Nobel laureate and eminent economist, 89-year-old Amartya Sen has been infected with Corona. But now it is reported that his health is stable. He is undergoing treatment in isolation at his home in Santiniketan as per the advice of doctors. It is known that Amartyasen came to his house in Santiniketan on July 1. A few days later news came that his health was not good.

It was in this order that he contacted the doctors and when the corona tests were conducted, Amartyasen was diagnosed with the corona virus.

According to media reports, Amartya Sen was scheduled to leave for Kolkata from their Santiniketan home on Saturday. Amartyasen is also scheduled to attend an event in Kolkata. While going to London on July 10. All of them were canceled due to corona virus infection. According to family sources, Amartyasen is now at his home in Santiniketan. He is being treated there. He is following the doctor’s advice. But it is reported that the RT-PCR test has not been done for him yet.

Meanwhile, the cases and deaths of corona virus are increasing gradually in India. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that another new sub-variant of Omicron has been identified in India, and the number of cases and deaths is increasing. According to the details disclosed by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday morning, the number of Covid-19 cases in India is again high.

18,840 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in India in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 43 people lost their lives fighting the corona virus. With this, the total number of corona virus epidemic cases in the country has reached 4,36,04,394. Also, the number of people who have died due to Covid-19 has increased to 5,25,386.

According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday (July 9), 16,104 people have recovered from Corona in the last 24 hours. With this the overall recovery rate has increased to about 98.51 percent. A total of 4,29,53,980 people have recovered from the corona virus so far. The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the country has increased to 1,25,028, the ministry data said. Active Covid-19 caseload increased by 2,693 cases in 24 hours.

Active cases account for 0.29 percent of total infections, the ministry said. On July 9, the daily positive rate was recorded at 4.14 percent. Maharashtra tops the list of states with the highest number of corona cases and deaths in the country, followed by Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Delhi, Odisha and Rajasthan.
