Emmanuel Macron: France to provide Ukraine with fighter jets and training, Macron announces

Emmanuel Macron: French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that France will donate additional Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft to Ukraine. He spoke after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined world leaders in France to commemorate the D-Day invasion.

The battle to liberate France from the Nazis began on June 6, 1944, at a place called Normandy. June 6 is celebrated as ‘D-Day’ in France. Zelensky was in France to seek more help from Western countries as his forces struggled to hold off a Russian offensive near the eastern city of Kharkiv in what has become Europe’s biggest conflict since World War II.

Macron told the French public broadcaster that he would on Friday announce new cooperation with Ukraine and the sale of French-made Mirage 2005 fighter planes that will help Ukraine defend its soil and its airspace against Russian attacks. He said Russia would also begin training Ukrainian pilots.

He reiterated that Ukraine should be allowed to use weapons provided by its Western allies to target Russian military targets and neutralize the points from which Ukraine is being attacked.
