J-K Police got intelligence input on the presence of terrorists in the Ahwatoo area of Kulgam. A joint cordon-and-search operation was launched by police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the area.
Mohammed Shafi Gani and Mohammad Asif Wani have been identified as killed. Foreign terrorist Hurah recruited local youth in the terrorist rank. Jammu Kashmir Police has given information. During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the security forces which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
Giving information, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that incriminating material, arms and ammunition including one AK-56, two AK-47, one pistol, one grenade, four magazines and one pistol magazine were recovered from both the sites of encounter in Kulgam.
As per police records, both the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and were linked with the proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Police said both the terrorists were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police/security forces and civilian atrocities.
On Monday, a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police said that two civilians and a jawan were also injured in the encounter in Batpura village of the district. A police official said that the security forces had received information about the presence of terrorists in Batpura village of Kulgam, following which the village was cordoned off. He said that the search operation turned into an encounter when the terrorists started firing on the security forces. Security forces also retaliated.
