‘EVM can be hacked…it should be eliminated,’ big statement from Tesla CEO Elon Musk

Elon Musk statement on EVM: In India, for the last few years, questions have been raised regarding electronic voting machines i.e. EVMs. Many times opposition parties have claimed that EVMs have been hacked. At the same time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, one of the richest personalities in the world, has demanded the abolition of EVMs, citing the risk of them being hacked. This statement of Elon Musk has come at a time when presidential elections are to be held in America after some time.

In fact, US presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had raised questions on the reliability of EVMs. “According to the Associated Press, Puerto Rico’s primary elections saw hundreds of voting irregularities related to electronic voting machines,” he wrote in his post on June 15. Fortunately, there was a paper trail so the problem was identified and the vote tally was corrected. What happens in jurisdictions where there is no paper trail?’

Kennedy Jr. further wrote, ‘American citizens need to know that all of their votes were counted, and that their elections cannot be hacked. To avoid electronic interference in elections we need to return to paper ballots. My administration will require paper ballots and we will guarantee honest and fair elections.

Responding to this post, Elon Musk wrote on Twitter, ‘We should eliminate electronic voting machines. The risk of being hacked by humans or AI, although small, is still very high.’
