Ex- Nepal Cricket Captain Sandeep Lamichhane arrested from Kathmandu airport, accused of raping minor

Kathmandu: The problems of Sandeep Lamichhane, former captain of Nepal cricket team and cricketer who has played IPL, have increased. Sandeep Lamichhane was arrested as soon as he came home for raping a minor girl. According to information, Sandeep was arrested and taken into custody by the police at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu today.

Kathmandu: The problems of Sandeep Lamichhane, former captain of Nepal cricket team and cricketer who has played IPL, have increased. Sandeep Lamichhane was arrested as soon as he came home for raping a minor girl. According to information, Sandeep was arrested and taken into custody by the police at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu today i.e. Thursday morning. Sandeep himself had informed through a Facebook post that he would return home this morning.

In fact, Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been accused by a 17-year-old girl of raping him in a hotel room in Kathmandu. In an FIR lodged with the Gaushala Mahanagar Police Circle, the teenage girl alleged that 22-year-old Lamichhane raped her in a hotel in August.

According to the case registered with Gaushala Police Circle, Sandeep Lamichhane allegedly took the girl to various places in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur on August 21. He raped her the same night in a hotel in Kathmandu. Let us tell you that Sandeep Lamichhane is the first player from Nepal to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He made headlines in 2018 by making his debut for the Delhi Capitals franchise.

Before landing home on Thursday morning, Sandeep Lamichhane wrote a post on Facebook, ‘For my sincere commitment to present myself in Nepal, I am landing at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on Qatar Airways at 10:00 am. I am sure that I will get justice and I will return to the cricket field very soon for the name and fame of my beloved country and I wish for a speedy trial. I will fully cooperate in all stages of the investigation and will fight the legal battle to prove my innocence. Justice will prevail.

Recently, Kathmandu Police spokesperson Dinesh Mainali had told that the district court had issued an arrest warrant against Sandeep Lamichhane for further investigation. The police had said on Wednesday that if Sandeep is not in Nepal, then the Kathmandu police will take the help of foreign agencies or Interpol. Let us tell you that Sandeep was made the captain of Nepal’s cricket team only last year.
