Ex US President Donald Trump indicted in classified documents probe; charged with 7 counts

Washington: Legal screws are being tightened on former US President Donald Trump. Trump said on Thursday that he has been accused of keeping classified documents after leaving office. This is the most serious legal threat to Trump, as the investigation into this criminal case poses a serious threat to his efforts for a second term in the White House.

Donald Trump says his lawyers have been told he has been subpoenaed in probing classified documents. However, the Justice Department has not yet confirmed this allegation. According to sources, 7 allegations have been made against Donald Trump in connection with the investigation of confidential documents. A person familiar with the indictment but not authorized to speak publicly about it said the allegations remain unclear and sealed.

Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social that ‘the corrupt Biden administration has told my lawyers that I have been indicted. Hardly any current or former commander-in-chief has ever faced federal charges. However, there was no immediate confirmation from the Justice Department about Trump’s claim.

However, some US media outlets, including the New York Times, citing sources, said that Trump has indeed been accused. Trump, who is running for re-election, said in his post that he has been summoned to a federal court in Miami on Tuesday.

Trump wrote that “I never thought it was possible that this could happen to a former President of the United States.” The former president’s lawyers have been informed that he is the target of an investigation into the possession of classified documents. It was not clear on Thursday what allegations are being made against Trump in the latest case. Trump, who turns 77 next week, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Significantly, after leaving the White House, Trump was searched at his residence Mar-a-Lago in Florida in search of some confidential documents. The FBI entered Mar-a-Lago with a search warrant and recovered approximately 11,000 classified papers. This charge has been leveled against Trump, who is already facing investigation in several other cases. These new federal charges are the biggest legal crisis for Trump so far. About three months ago, he was indicted in New York on 34 charges, including falsifying business records.
