Excise Policy Case: Delhi High Court issues notice to CBI on Kejriwal’s application, seeks reply in 7 days, next hearing on July 17

The Delhi High Court on Friday ruled on a petition challenging the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court has directed to file the reply within seven days. The court has fixed the next hearing of the case for July 17.

The CBI had arrested Kejriwal on June 26, when he was in judicial custody in connection with a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Kejriwal was recently granted bail by the trial court in the ED case on June 20. However, the next day after the ED filed the urgent petition, the Delhi High Court granted an interim stay on the bail. The stay on the trial court’s bail order was confirmed by the Delhi High Court on June 25.

Subsequently, he was arrested by the CBI on 26 June and sent to CBI custody till 29 June. On June 29, when the CBI did not demand extension of his custody, he was sent to judicial custody till July 12. Kejriwal was arrested for the first time by ED on March 21, 2024. He is accused of being the key conspirator in a conspiracy to deliberately leave loopholes in the liquor policy so as to benefit some liquor sellers.
