More clashes may take place between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh as Beijing has escalated its military activities in the region, Reuters reported.
New Delhi: The strained relationship between India and China has been continuing. In the meantime, more clashes may take place between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh as Beijing has escalated its military activities in the region, Reuters reported.
The report claimed to be a part of a recent, top-secret research document by the Ladakh Police that was presented at a conference of senior police officers recently under the theme “Security Issues Pertaining to an Unfenced Land Border.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah both attended the conference that was hosted by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) from January 20–22.
According to Reuters, there is an expectation of more clashes between China and India in Ladakh based on intelligence obtained by local police in border regions and the pattern of military confrontations between the two countries.
When Indian and Chinese troops clashed in Ladakh in 2020, at least 24 soldiers died, but tensions eased after military and diplomatic talks.
A fresh clash once again occurred between the two nations in December 2022 in Arunachal Pradesh, but no casualties were reported from either side.
“China has been looking towards its economic interests in the region, so the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has been trying to set up its military infrastructure, and fights would also get frequent, which may or may not follow a pattern,” the research paper said.
However, armies of both nations are testing each other’s military strength, artillery, and infantry mobilisation times. The paper also revealed that it has gone up since 2013–2014.
