Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot cleared the air on Monday that under the Ujjwala scheme, poor families will be eligible to get 12 LPG cylinders every year at the rate of Rs 500 each, starting April 1, 2023. The chief minister announced this scheme at an event for the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is moving through Rajasthan. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were also present on this occasion.
Gehlot said during his announcement that no one will be deprived of the government’s welfare schemes. “I would like to announce on this occasion that those who are below the poverty line and come under the Ujjwala scheme will be given 12 cylinders a year for Rs 500 each beginning April 1,” he added.
He lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided the poor with LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme, but the poor don’t have money to fill their cylinders as the rates of LPG have gone from Rs 400 to Rs 1,040.”
LPG cylinders weighing approximately 14.2 kg cost around Rs 1,057 at the moment.
According to Gehlot, the Rajasthan government is taking one step after another at a time to reduce the impact of inflation on the people.
The Rajasthan Assembly election is scheduled to be held next year, and the Congress is adamant about coming into power for a second straight term in the state. But the internal tussle between Gehlot and his political foe, Sachin Pilot, has created a big rift in the party.
