Farmers Gather at Shambhu and Khanauri Borders to Mark 100 Days of ‘Delhi Chalo’ Protest

On Wednesday, farmers gathered in large numbers at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points to mark 100 days of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest. They are demanding the government provide a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. Farmers have been camped at these borders since February 13, after being stopped by security forces on their way to Delhi.

Farmers Want to Question Prime Minister Modi

Sarwan Singh Pandher, leader of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMM), criticized the government’s actions and the heavy police presence blocking their march to Delhi. He said farmers would protest if they are not allowed to ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi questions during his visit to Patiala on May 23. PM Modi’s visit kicks off his election campaign in Punjab, with polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats on June 1.

Farmers Gather at Shambhu and Khanauri Borders

Farmers have been showing black flags to BJP leaders and demanding answers about their unmet demands, especially the legal guarantee for MSP. They are frustrated because they have been stopped at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders instead of being allowed to march to Delhi.

Planned Protest During PM Modi’s Visit
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are leading the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest. On May 21, farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal announced that farmers would show black flags to Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Punjab for the election campaign. This decision was made during a rally in Jagraon, Ludhiana district.
