Guwahati: A boat carrying around 100 people capsized on Thursday in the Brahmaputra river in Dhubri district of Assam. Many are feared drowning. Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP told that 6-7 people are still missing; Relief and rescue work is going on. Dhubri zonal officer Sanju Das is also missing in the incident. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority Chief Executive Officer Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, the rescue team has started the rescue operation in the river.

Giving information about this accident, Gyanendra Dev Tripathi said that there is a small channel near the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge. The team was crossing the channel on a wooden boat when it collided with something and overturned. Around 30 people were on board the boat, many of whom were from the Dhubri circle office. Some people who knew how to swim were saved. He said teams of State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force and Border Security Force have been deployed for search and rescue operations.
-“A country-made boat capsized in the Brahmaputra river in Dhubri district. Search and rescue teams have started the operations”, said Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Chief Executive Officer, Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
-The Bhashani-bound boat hit the post of a bridge at Adabari, around 3 km from Dhubri town, and capsized, another official said.
-15 people have been rescued. Several school children were on board and none have been rescued so far.
Dhubri Circle Officer Sanju Das, along with a land record official and an office staff were also travelling on the boat to survey an erosion-hit area. Das remains missing, while the two others managed to swim to safety.
