Fierce contest on cards between RR and GT in tonight’s IPL fixture; MI’s poor show continues

Five successive losses for the Mumbai Indians have put the heavyweight team of the IPL at the bottom. The five-time champions must address a few issues, particularly in the bowling unit, where, aside from Bumrah, no one is firing to keep the opposition at bay.

The poor patch of MI continued to lose to PBKS by 12 runs in yesterday’s match. The Punjab Kings batters took advantage of the ordinary attack of the Mumbai Indians and scored 198 runs in their allotted 20 overs. MI just managed to score 186 runs, 13 short of the target.

Battle to reach on top

In tonight’s fixture, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Gujarat Tiatans (GT) at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. Both teams have so far played four matches, winning three each. But RR is at the top of the points table due to its better run rate. An exciting match will be awaited tonight.

The key point in this edition of the IPL is the dominance of fast bowlers by both franchises, particularly in the power play. Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna of RR are in tremendous form and troubled most batters with their accurate bowling. RR quickies have bagged 8 wickets, averaging 14.25.

On the other hand, GT bowlers are not behind in the bowling unit. Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, and Lockie Ferguson have been bowling with fine line and length and asking a lot of questions of their opponents’ batters. The GT bowlers performed exceptionally well and grabbed 9 wickets at 17.00.

Contest between Rashid vs Chahal

In tonight’s encounter, the contest between Rashid Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal would be a treat to watch. Both spinners have been the most successful bowlers in the middle overs of the match since the 2017 edition of the IPL.

Rashid and Chahal have been averaging 20.21 and 20.97, with 70 and 60 wickets, respectively. Both the slow bowlers could prove handy for their team in the end.

In this IPL, RR and GT appear to be confident teams. They have played positive cricket so far. Both franchises have various match winners.

Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, and others are capable of demolishing any attack and piling up a huge total if the GT bats first. The batting unit of RR is superb. Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Rassie van der Dussen, Shimron Hetmyer, and others are capable of swinging the pendulum of the match at any moment with their lusty hitting.

Pitch looks placid

The pitch looks a paradise  for the batting. The batting side should be careful not to lose wickets early so that they can capitalise on the situation in the death overs. The dew factor seems to be less of a factor, but the captains’ winning the toss will like to bowl first.

It is going to be a see-saw battle in tonight’s fixture. Both teams would like to reach the top of the points table. The consistency level of these two teams is remarkable. Obviously, they would like to continue their form to go ahead in the tournament.

Cricket fans have a gift tonight to watch the absorbing battle between RR and GT. No team is the hot favourite for today’s contest. The writing is on the wall that tonight’s IPL match will be a thrilling battle.
