Following the historic triumph, Argentina has received criticism for their celebrations from fans, experts, and ex-players.
Zurich: Lionel Messi led Argentina to victory in Qatar last year, winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup for the third time after defeating France in the final. In an exciting finale, the CONMEBOL team had to seal a 4-2 win over France on penalties after the game finished in a 3-3 deadlock.
Following the historic triumph, Argentina has received criticism for their celebrations from some fans, experts, and ex-players. Goalkeeper Martinez was heard mocking Mbappe in the locker room after the final whistle and making an obscene gesture with the Golden Glove trophy.
The Aston Villa keeper was spotted cradling a baby doll with a photo of Mbappe’s face during the trophy procession in Argentina.
Argentina has faced the brunt of FIFA, whose Disciplinary Committee has started proceedings against them as a result of their contentious gestures.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 11 (offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play) and 12 (misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, as well as of article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations in conjunction with the Media and Marketing Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” according to a statement from FIFA.
