New Delhi: A police complaint has been lodged against TMC MP Mahua Moitra for her alleged remarks on Maa Kali. BJP leader Jiten Chatterjee has lodged an FIR accusing him of hurting religious sentiments. On this, Mahua Moitra tweeted and wrote, ‘Bring it on BJP, I worship Maa Kali. I’m not afraid of anyone. Not because of your stupidity. Neither your goons nor your police. And certainly not from your troll either. Truth doesn’t need anyone.

According to sources, TMC MP Mahua Moitra had courted controversy on Tuesday by saying that just as every person has the right to worship the deities in his own way, in the same way as a person he should eat the meat of Goddess Kali. You have every right to imagine yourself as a goddess who drinks and accepts alcohol.
Mahua Moitra had earlier said that her comments were distorted by trolls. He tweeted, ‘To all you Sanghis– telling lies will not make you a good Hindu. I have never endorsed any film or post nor mentioned the word smoking. It is suggested that you go to Tarapith and see what food and drink is offered to Maa Kali as bhog.

Speaking at the India Today Coclave East in Kolkata, Moitra said, “For example, if you go to Bhutan, you find that when they (people) worship there, they offer liquor to their deity. Now if you go to Uttar Pradesh and say that you offer liquor to your deity as prasad, they will say that it is blasphemy.
He said, “For me, Goddess Kali is a meat eater and a drinker. And if you go to Tarapith (an important Shaktipeeth in Birbhum district of West Bengal) you will see sadhus smoking there. This is the form of Kali which people worship there. I, within Hinduism, as a Kali-worshipper have the right to imagine Kali that way and that is my freedom.’
On this, the BJP hit out hard on Moitra for this statement and asked whether it was the official stand of the ruling party of West Bengal to insult Hindu deities. On this the ruling party Trinamool distanced itself from this remark and condemned it.
TMC tweeted, “The comments and views expressed by Mahua Moitra on Goddess Kali at India Today Conclave East 2022 are personal and are not endorsed by the party in any way. Trinamool Congress strongly condemns such remarks.
