At least one person was confirmed dead after a fire broke out at a factory in Delhi’s Pratap Nagar area on Saturday morning. A total of 28 fire tenders reached the spot to contain the fire. Cooling operations are underway.
As per reports, there were 40 workers inside the premises when the fire broke out.
“The fire stated at around 3.47 a.m. Fire tenders are on the spot and trying to douse the fire. It is under control,” said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service.
The factory is used for making cosmetics, children’s toys and bags. Around 14 small factories are operating in the area. Preliminary investigations suggest that nail polish and plastic materials in the factories aggravated the fire.
According to Fire Officer Rajinder Atwal, eyewitnesses informed that an LPG cylinder exploded following which the fire broke out. “A Fire Service personnel is injured and admitted to hospital. We have successfully contained the fire,” he said.
After the incident, North Delhi Mayor visited the spot.
