A tragic incident unfolded in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area as a fire broke out in an ‘illegal’ paper godown, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old individual named Satendra Paswan. The fire engulfed a two-storey building, with locals asserting that the godown was operating unlawfully within a residential zone.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) swiftly responded to the emergency, dispatching six fire tenders upon receiving the distress call at 2 am. Despite efforts, the blaze raged on until 7 am, leaving devastation in its wake. Paswan’s sister, Saaro Devi, lamented the loss, revealing that her brother worked in the godown. She recounted her futile search for him during the night, only to discover his charred remains the following morning. Paswan leaves behind a grieving wife and children.

People in the neighborhood said the warehouse was illegal and that this wasn’t the first fire there. Anil Sharma, a local resident, complained about it.
This happened just after another fire at the Income Tax CR Building in the ITO area. Luckily, seven people were rescued, but one person got hurt and had to go to the hospital. The fire started across from the old Police Headquarters, which some police units still use.
