Fire in Bangladesh’s oxygen plant, five killed; about 30 people injured

A massive fire has broken out after an explosion at an oxygen plant in southeastern Bangladesh. In the Keshabpur area of Sitakunda Upazila, around 4.30 pm, a blast was heard in the oxygen plant.

A massive fire broke out after an explosion at an oxygen plant in Bangladesh. Many people have been burnt alive in this fire. The number of injured has been told as 30. There is an atmosphere of chaos at the spot. Relief-rescue work has been started.

According to the local people, a blast was heard at the oxygen plant in Keshabpur area of Sitakunda Upazila at around 4.30 pm. After this people saw the rising of the flames. Fire service officials said that the blaze was so severe that five fire tenders had to be called to douse it. So far the exact cause of the fire has not been ascertained.

According to the police, the identity of the dead is yet to be ascertained. Earlier in February, a fire broke out in a residential building in Dhaka. One person died in this accident, while many others were injured.

Local authorities said the death toll from the explosion at the oxygen plant could rise, as the area is 40 km from the southeastern port city of Chittagong, where immediate help was difficult to reach. An official of the Fire Brigade Service said that it is not yet known what caused the explosion.
