New Delhi: After Friday’s gruesome train accident at Bahanga Bazar in Balasore district, damaged train coaches have been removed from the main ‘trunk line’ connecting eastern and southern India and two rail tracks have been opened to restore train services. Corrected. The Railway Minister has been continuously present at the spot since the incident. Operations on one line were started on Sunday. Railway Minister himself was present at that place at the time of commencement of operations.

After the passing of the goods train, the Railway Minister first thanked God and then while talking to the people said that all the people have done a great job. I am very sad for the families whose people were victims of this accident. But we will go to the root of this incident. Whoever is guilty will be given the harshest punishment. Congratulations to all of you on resuming operations. The second line should also be started soon.

On Sunday itself, Railway Minister Vaishnav said that the “root cause” of the accident has been ascertained and the “people” responsible for it have been identified. “It (accident) happened due to changes made in the electronic interlocking and point machine,” he told reporters. He said the cause of the mishap was related to the ‘point machine’ and ‘electronic interlocking’ system, a key equipment for railway signalling. Vaishnav said that the change made in the ‘Electronic Interlocking’ has been identified which led to the accident.
