Five dead after Karnataka Transport Corporation bus collided with car in Sirsi district; Several injured

In a tragic turn of events, an accident in Sirsi Taluk of Uttara Kannada district claimed the lives of five individuals when the car they were traveling in collided with a state-owned bus on Friday, according to police reports. Three people died on the spot and two succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

IRSI(KARNATAKA): In a tragic turn of events, an accident in Sirsi Taluk of Uttara Kannada district claimed the lives of five individuals when the car they were traveling in collided with a state-owned bus on Friday, according to police reports. Three people died on the spot and two succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Several bus passengers sustained minor injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Ramakrishnarao Raburao (71), Vidyalakshmi (67), Pushpa Mohanrao (62) And Suhas Ganeshrao (30), and driver of the car Arvind (45) from Chennai. According to police, three of the now-deceased were car occupants hailing from Puttur town in Dakshina (Uttara) Kannada and another belonged to Tamil Nadu.

Among the victims, three lost their lives instantly at the accident site, while two succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital where immediate medical attention was provided, as confirmed by a senior police officer. The Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus was travelling from Hubballi to Bhatkal town when it collided with an on-coming car. The incident took place at Sirsi Rural Police Station limits.

According to prima facie, overspeeding may have been a contributing factor to the collision. The car sustained severe damage, and the impact caused the windshield of the bus to break, resulting in minor injuries to some bus passengers, according to the police officer.

The locals had to cut open the car with iron rods to remove the victims trapped inside the car. The two injured were immediately taken to the nearby hospital where they breathed their last.
