Canada: In a distressing incident, a woman flyer onboard Air Transat, a prominent Canadian airline, shared a harrowing post that has left many travellers and social media users in disbelief. Birgit Umaigba Omoruyi, a nurse by profession, took to social media to recount her shocking experience during a flight with the airline when she discovered blood stains on the seat in front of her.
According to Birgit, upon informing the cabin crew about the unhygienic conditions, she was handed antibacterial wipes and instructed to clean the seat herself. To make matters worse, she had to explicitly request gloves to complete the task, highlighting the worrying nature of the situation. She also shared a video of herself wiping off the blood stains on the seat in front of her.
“Dear @airtransat. What more can I say? As if it was not enough to find fresh blood on the seat in front of me, one of your flight attendants provided me with disinfectant wipes to wipe it off with my bare hands. Thank God for common sense, I asked for gloves and wiped the blood off as told. Next time, feel free to call on me to help you clean the entire plane so this never happens again. Goodness gracious,” Birgit in sarcasm wrote on X, expressing her indignation with the airline.

She has also shared another horrific incident in which an elderly woman was screamed at by one of the staff when she asked to use the washroom just before the take-off that was delayed by three hours.
“Then, after waiting 3 hours inside the plane for the flight to take off, one of your staff was busy yelling at a Black elderly woman who asked to use the washroom just before the final announcement that the 3hr long hydraulic problem had been fixed. It was so disgusting to watch. I hope you do better for the very people enriching your business,” she wrote.

“I wipe down my seat area on EVERY flight – especially the head rest. It’s the worst for contamination,” a user commented. “I always bring disinfectant wipes with me on an airplane. Always,” said another. “Like you don’t wipe enough blood in your day job. Now u have to do it while travelling. Insane,” posted a third. “Unacceptable that a staff person was yelling at a passenger….for wanting to use the washroom. How disrespectful to an elderly person,” another netizen said.
