Following Deepotsav, arrangements are underway for Dev Deepawali in Varanasi on November 27

Following the triumph of the Deepotsava festivities in Ayodhya, where a new world record was set by lighting 22 lakh diyas at 51 ghats of the Saryu, the Uttar Pradesh government is preparing for the celebration of ‘Dev Deepawali’ in Varanasi on November 27. The event is anticipated to be even grander, with an expected footfall of over 5 lakh tourists and pilgrims from across the country and abroad.

The festivities will showcase sand rangolis depicting Chhatrapati Shivaji and Ayodhya’s Ram temple, digital mapping on the walls of the Kashi Vishwanath temple, a captivating light and sound show, an eco-friendly fireworks display on the opposite side of the Ganga, and adornment of 84 ghats, among other attractions.

Deepotsava in Ayodhya commenced seven years ago, while Dev Deepawali is an annual celebration on Kartik Purnima, drawing large crowds of tourists and pilgrims, both from India and abroad.

Mukesh Meshram, Principal Secretary of the UP Tourism Department, stated to The Indian Express, “Public participation in this event is quite high. This year, we anticipate a gathering of over 5 lakh people on the day of Dev Deepawali as it takes place on Kartik Purnima, which is regarded as a very auspicious day. Funds have been provided to different organizations, including the municipal corporation for the Ganga Mahotsava, cultural events, etc.”

“Projection mapping will be done on the walls of the Kashi Vishwanath temple on the day of Dev Deepwali, showcasing the culture and traditions of Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, there will be musical shows, a light and sound show along with a firecrackers show on the other side of the Ganga, which the visitors can enjoy from the ghats,” Meshram said.
