Former Astronaut William Anders : Former astronaut William Anders, who photographed Earthrise for the first time in the world, has passed away. He was 90 years old. He died in a plane crash in Washington. Retired Major General and former astronaut of ‘Apollo 8’.

According to reports, Anders was flying the plane alone when it crashed into the water near San Juan Island, Washington. His son, Greg Anders, a former Air Force lieutenant colonel, confirmed his death.

William Anders took the iconic “Earthrise” photo in 1968. ‘Earthrise’ is a photograph of a portion of the Earth and Moon’s surface that Anders took from lunar orbit. “The family is heartbroken,” said his son, Greg Anders. He was a skilled pilot and we will miss him greatly.”

William Anders said that this photo (Earthrise) is his most important contribution to the space program. The first color photograph of the Earth taken from space by Anders is one of the most important photographs in modern history, because it changed man’s view of this planet (Earth).
