Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister of India, HD Deve Gowda on Tuesday revealed that he and his wife had tested positive for COVID-19 and were self-isolating along with other family members.

“My wife Chennamma and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We are self-isolating along with other family members. I request all those who came in contact with us over the last few days to get themselves tested. I request party workers and well-wishers not to panic,” tweeted the 87-year-old leader.

The senior Janata Dal Secular leader lives in Padmanabhanagar in south Bengaluru and was admitted to Manipal hospital, Old Airport road along with his wife Chennamma.

Soon after the news broke out about the veteran leaders health, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter account to wish the senior leader and his wife a speedy recovery.

Thanking PM Modi for checking in on him, Mr Gowda said he is “deeply moved by his offer to get me treated in any hospital of my choice in any city”.

In August last year, Gowda’s son and former minister HD Revanna had also tested positive for the coronavirus and was admitted to a hospital.

As perTuesday health ministry report, Karnataka reported nearly 3,000 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 deaths.
