Former WWE wrestler The Great Khali joins BJP

New Delhi: Professional wrestler and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star Dalip Singh Rana, better known as The Great Khali, joined the BJP on Thursday, February 10.

Khali’s inclusion into the party comes days ahead of the Punjab Assembly polls. Punjab will go to the polls on February 14 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.

Khali reached the BJP headquarters in Delhi earlier in the day and was welcomed into the party fold in an induction ceremony at 1 pm.

“With The Great Khali joining us, it will be a source of inspiration to youth as well as other people of the country,” said Union Minister and senior BJP leader Jitendra Singh.

Khali had made his professional wrestling debut in 2000. Before kickstarting his WWE career, he was an officer for the Punjab Police.

During his WWE career, Khali also went on to become the WWE Champion.

Due to his success in WWE, The Great Khali made cameos in several Hollywood films, like MacGruber, Get Smart, and the Adam Sandler-starrer The Longest Yard. He has also appeared on the reality show Big Boss.

Khali hails from the small town of Dhiraina in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. After his retirement from the WWE, he opened Continental Wrestling Entertainment, an Indian professional wrestling promotion and training academy.
