Mumbai: In its chargesheet against conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is an accused in RS 200 crore extortion scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said he introduced himself to actor Jacqueline Fernandez as “Shekhar Ratna Vela”.
As per reports, the conman first tried to get in touch with her in December 2020 and January 2021, but the 34-year-old ignored his calls since she did not know who he was. The probing agency also revealed that Sukesh Chandrashekhar then got in touch with the actress through her makeup artist Shaan Muttathil.
The makeup artist allegedly received a call from someone claiming to be a government official who said that the ‘Kick’ star must get in touch with Shekhar Ratna Vela, who is a ‘very important person’.
Meanwhile, Jacqueline in her statement to the agency, said Sukesh Chandrashekhar gave her two pairs of diamond earrings, two Hermes bracelets and three Birkin bags and a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes.
She also got two Gucci outfits for gym and a multi-coloured bracelet of stones from the conman who is the prime accused in a Rs 200 crore extortion case.
In his statement recorded under Section 50 of the PMLA Act, Sukesh Chandrashekhar had said that he gave as many as 15 pairs of earrings, five Birkin bags, and other luxury goods from Chanel, Gucci to the actress. The fraudster also claimed that he gifted the Shri Lankan beauty Cartier bangles and rings and a bracelet by Tiffany & Co. in addition to Rolex watches.
Sukesh Chandrashekhar, in his statement to the central probing agency, claimed that he gave Jacqueline jewellery worth Rs 7 crore.
The conman reportedly also gifted the actor a Mini Cooper which she claimed she had returned. In addition, Mr Chandrashekhar also extended a loan of USD 150,000 to Jacqueline’s sister, who lives in the US. He also gave her a BMW X5 car and extended a loan of USD 50,000 to her brother in Australia.
The conman also gifted Jacqueline Fernandez’s parents a Maserati and her mother in Bahrain a Porsche.
In her statement to the ED, the Bollywood actress said Sukesh Chandrashekhar introduced himself to her as the owner of Sun TV. As per Jacqueline’s statement, he also claimed that he was part of the ‘political family’ of former Tamil Nadu chief minister the late J Jayalalithaa.
The conman further told the actress that he was a big fan of her and that she should become a part of some of the ‘many film projects’ he had lined up in the south.
Jacqueline also added that she used to visit showrooms of luxury brands and she would then send a list of these products to Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who used to pay for them and got them delivered to her either directly or through one of his aides.
