Legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar has cautioned Gill and Ishan not to become victims of overconfidence after their record-breaking twin double centuries.
New Delhi: Two budding Indian batters hammered 200 plus runs in ODIs. Ishan Kishan achieved this elusive feat in December against Bangladesh. He scripted his name in the record book, plundering the fastest double century in fifty-over format.
Another youngster, Shubman Gill, made his name in the double centurion club in the 50-over format. Gill achieved this marvellous performance against New Zealand in the home series at Hyderabad. Both have joined Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma on the list of players who have gone past 200 plus innings in ODIs.
Ishan and Gill are both openers and showed a lot of dedication. In fact, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma always preferred Gill over Kishan, which forced the fastest double centurion to miss the recently concluded three ODIs against Sri Lanka.
Both are young, and they seem to have the future of Indian cricket. Legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar has cautioned both of them not to become victims of overconfidence after their record-breaking twin double centuries.
Several players faded after a few sparkling starts to their careers, like Karun Nair, Laxmipathy Balaji, SS Das, and Rajesh Chauhan, so Gavaskar cautions Gill and Ishan to keep their eyes on their game so that they can avoid adding their names to this list.
Gavaskar praised the fearless nature of the youngsters batting in the team and said they are super confident, which is an asset for the Indian team. They never worry about being dropped or not getting a chance in the national team on a regular basis.
Failure doesn’t scare them, so they play with confidence, which has improved the team’s overall performance on the field.
India hammered the two visiting sides, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, in all departments of the game and registered superb victories against them. Some of the matches turned absolutely one-sided.
