Ghaziabad: Man strangles his wife to death, then hides himself with body for 3 days; arrested

Ghaziabad: In a shocking incident, a 55-year-old salesman was detained by authorities after the discovery of his wife’s dead body in their one-room residence in Ambedkar Nagar. The incident, which occurred on February 27, unfolded on March 1 when concerned neighbours alerted the police due to a foul odor emanating from the couple’s house.

According to the police, Bharat, the accused, allegedly strangled his wife Sunita, 51, following a major altercation earlier in the week. Shockingly, Bharat remained within the confines of their home for three days, with Sunita’s body left on the bed. He only ventured out on Friday to attend work and it was not until Saturday when neighbours, disturbed by the foul smell, investigated further and discovered the grim scene.

Upon learning the information around 3 pm on Saturday, authorities rapidly intervened, taking Bharat into custody and arranging for Sunita’s body to undergo a postmortem examination due to advanced decomposition. Investigations revealed that Bharat and Sunita were in their second marriage, having previously cohabited for over a decade before officially marrying two and a half years ago.

Complications arose in their relationship due to Bharat’s continued financial support to his former wife, leading to frequent disagreements between him and Sunita. The fatal confrontation on February 27 culminated in woman’s murder.

Even though several days passed, Bharat went to work only on Friday, and closed the door behind him. Following a complaint by Sunita’s family, authorities filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Mussoorie police station, charging Bharat under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
