Girls video scandal: Chandigarh University closed till September 24 amid protest, hostel warden suspended

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police have arrested 3 accused. The Chandigarh University administration suspended the girls' hostel warden Rajvinder Kaur for alleged misbehaviour with students.

New Delhi: Students of a private university in Punjab’s Mohali staged a massive protest over ‘rumours’ that a hostel student made ‘objectionable’ videos of several other students, following which Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took up the matter last evening. ordered an inquiry. After preliminary investigation, the police arrested a student. The Chandigarh University administration today suspended the girls’ hostel warden Rajvinder Kaur for alleged misbehaviour with students. The university has also been shut for students till Saturday.

Seeing the matter heating up, the college administration has given a week’s leave to the students. Earlier this holiday was of 2 days, which has been increased to one week. Many students are now going to their homes. Apart from this, the media has been banned from coming inside the campus. On the other hand, information is being received that the warden of the hostel has also been transferred.

The hostel warden, who was seen in a viral video confronting the arrested girl who has been accused of allegedly sending the videos to men outside the university, reportedly didn’t inform police about the matter immediately. She also allegedly scolded the girls when students started the protest.

A large number of students protested on the university campus again last evening, with some of the protesting students accusing the university authorities of “suppressing” the incident.

The students at the Chandigarh University have refused to accept the police findings that there is no prima facie evidence that the student had taken obscene videos of other women at the hostel bathroom.
