Global IndiaAI Summit 2024: Ashwini Vaishnaw Highlights Growing Awareness of AI Risks

The two-day event of Global IndiaAI Summit is being hosted by the Ministry of Electronics & IT in New Delhi. This program was inaugurated by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. At the event, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav spoke on many aspects regarding AI.

Ashwini Vaishnaw said that nations and societies around the world are becoming increasingly aware of the new threats and risks posed by AI and stressed that effective solutions to such challenges can only come through collective global efforts. Can come.

India AI Mission to be launched in next 2 -3 months
The Electronics and IT Minister further said that a comprehensive India AI Mission – which was approved by the Cabinet earlier this year. Will be launched in the next 2-3 months.

Speaking at the ‘Global India AI Summit’, Vaishnav said that the entire package is the complete AI mission which was approved by the Cabinet a few months ago. The team is working on setting up the foundation and all the seven pillars and probably in 2-3 months we will launch the mission.

The Minister said during the inaugural address that while the potential of AI for transformation and social good is clear, countries around the world also recognize the dangers and risks posed by this new technology.

Misinformation and fake news a big challenge
Referring to the comments of Minister of State for IT Jitin Prasad, Vaishnav said that in the recent general elections, we have seen how big a challenge misinformation and fake news can be and this challenge is multiplied by the power of AI. Not only India, but the world is becoming aware of the emerging threats and risks from AI.

He said that societies are responding to these challenges in a systematic and deliberate manner. He cited ongoing efforts in Europe, the US, the UK as well as in forums such as the General Partnership on AI (in which India is the lead chair).

India will soon prepare AI security measures
Vaishnav said that we also believe that the solution should come through a global thought-process, it cannot be done by any country in isolation. On how soon India will create regulations and safeguards on AI, the minister said discussions are ongoing, but political consensus will be required.

He said that discussions are going on. This requires political consent. All sections of society must understand the threats and possibilities. Only after that we should take legal action.
