Goa Congress comes down hard on ‘traitors’; Party acts against Lobo, Kamat for planning defections

Panaji: Goa Congress comes down hard on traitors. After Maharashtra, now a situation like a political crisis is being created in its neighboring state Goa. Ahead of the budget session in Goa, the political turmoil between the Congress and the BJP has intensified. Congress in-charge of Goa, Gundurao said amidst the ongoing tussle within the party that our leaders have conspired against the party. BJP wants the Congress party to weaken in Goa.

That’s why he has hatched this conspiracy with two of our leaders Michael Lobo and Digambar Kamat. Michael Lobo and Digambar Kamat are fraudsters. Amidst the changing political situation in Goa, Gundurao has removed Michael Lobo from the post of leader Vipassra with immediate effect. At the same time, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has sent Mukul Wasnik to Goa amidst the ongoing political upheaval in Goa. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal gave this information by tweeting.

Gundurao said that the party’s five MLAs, including Michael Lobo, Digambar Kamat, Kedar Naik, Rajesh Faldesai and Deliala Lobo, are currently unreachable, while five others – Elton D’Costa, Sankalp Amonkar, Yuri Alemao, Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Rudolph Fernandes were present at the press conference. He said that the sixth MLA, Alexo Sequeira, is in touch with the party leaders and is with the Congress. The BJP, which is in power in Goa, currently has 20 MLAs and has the support of five others. Whereas Congress currently has 11 MLAs.

According to information received from sources, three Goa Congress MLAs did not attend the party meeting a day before the assembly session. It is discussed that all the MLAs who were absent from the meeting are in touch with BJP. However, the Goa Congress has rubbished reports of any rift in the party.

According to sources, Congress party chief Amit Patkar said that such a rumor is being deliberately spread by the BJP sitting in power. In the midst of all this, news is coming that Goa Congress has removed Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo from the post amid reports of rebellion.

After the elections, a coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party, Goa Forward Party and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party formed the state government, with Manohar Parrikar becoming the Chief Minister. However, after the death of Manohar Parrikar, Pramod Sawant took oath as the Chief Minister on 19 March 2019. Congress has 11 MLAs in Goa. Of these, seven did not attend today’s meeting.

According to sources, Congress’s CM candidate Digambar Kamat did not attend the meeting of MLAs on Saturday in the assembly elections held in the year 2022. Kamat is reportedly upset that the party’s Michael Lobo was made the leader of the opposition. However, the party has denied this claim. Meanwhile, Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tavkar on Sunday canceled the notification for the election for the post of deputy speaker, which was scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
