New Delhi: Google has today celebrated the 96th birthday of Bharat Ratna famous Indian musician and lyricist, composer Bhupen Hazarika, who has made an incomparable contribution to Indian music, by making his special doodle, he has depicted Bhupen ji in a special position singing music in his doodle. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was born on September 8, 1926 in Sadiya, Upper Assam. He was influenced by his father Nilakant Hazarika who was a school teacher and his mother Shantipriya Hazarika in singing. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika had 10 siblings in his family and his mother introduced them to music, after which he sang his first song at the age of just 10.
In a career spanning 60 years, Hazarika was honoured with numerous awards, including the National Award for best music direction in 1975, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987, Padma Shri in 1977, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1992, and Padma Bhushan in 2001, among others. He was posthumously awarded Padma Vibhushan – India’s second-highest civilian award – in 2012, and Bharat Ratna – highest civilian award – in 2019.
Dr.Bhupen Hazarika completed his matriculation in 1940; Intermediate in Arts (IA) from Cotton College in 1942 and then joined Banaras Hindu University for higher studies and later B.A. In the year 1944 and M.A. Completed in the year 1946. And later he got a scholarship and PhD degree from Columbia University in America. Hazarika also served as the chairman and director of numerous boards and association, including the Indian government’s National Film Development Corporation.
Dr.Bhupen Hazarika died on 5 November 2011 at the age of 85 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra. “Happy birthday, Bhupen Hazarika! Your songs and films continue to command respect for Assam’s rich culture,” Google said.
