Ahmedabad: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal said in Gujarat on Sunday that the BJP is making false promises of implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Gujarat. Raising doubts over the intention of the Gujarat government, Kejriwal said the ruling party had made the same promise before the Uttarakhand assembly elections but did not implement it after winning the election.

Kejriwal said that what the BJP did before the Uttarakhand elections formed a committee. After winning the Uttarakhand elections, now that committee went to its home. Now a committee was formed 3 days before the Gujarat elections, now it will also go to its home after the elections.

Why not make it in Madhya Pradesh, why not make it in Uttar Pradesh, if their intention is to implement the Uniform Civil Code, then why not make it in the country and implement it in the country, are they waiting for the Lok Sabha elections? So first you go and ask him that Kejriwal ji is saying that you do not have to implement the Uniform Civil Code, your intention is bad.

The Gujarat government on Saturday informed about the decision to constitute a committee to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The proposal for the formation of the committee was approved during the meeting of the state cabinet on Saturday.

This is believed to be the last meeting of the Bhupendra Patel-led cabinet as the schedule for the state elections is expected to be announced next week. Giving information about this decision, Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi and Union Minister Purushottam Rupala told that the committee will be formed before the model code of conduct for the elections is implemented.
