Government takes action after accident at IGI Airport Terminal-1, Civil Aviation Minister orders probe

A major accident has occurred this morning at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport of the country's capital Delhi. Many cars present there got buried after the roof collapsed due to rain at Terminal-1 of the airport. Six people were injured in the accident. One person has died there.

New Delhi: A major accident has occurred this morning at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport of the country’s capital Delhi. Many cars present there got buried after the roof collapsed due to rain at Terminal-1 of the airport. Six people were injured in the accident. One person has died there. Now Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu has ordered an investigation into this entire incident. He announced that a thorough inspection of the structure at the airport would be conducted.

Union Civil Aviation Minister has reached IGI Airport Terminal-1. He said the situation is under control. Terminal-1 will be restarted only after thorough investigation. Arrangements are being made to shift flight operations to Terminal-2 and Terminal-3.

Let us tell you, due to heavy rain at around 5 in the morning, the shed extending from departure gate number 1 to gate number 2 outside Terminal-1 of IGIA (Domestic Airport) collapsed, due to which about four vehicles were damaged and about six people were injured. Went. One person died in the accident. The condition of all the injured is stable. Teams of Delhi Police, Fire Services, CISF and NDRF are present on the spot.

Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu said on Friday that the shed outside Terminal 1 in Delhi collapsed due to heavy rains. Due to this, incoming and outgoing flights from Terminal-1 have been closed until further notice. Alternative arrangements are being made for the smooth operation of flights. Sources with information said that the departure of planes has been suspended till 2 pm.

Let us tell you, only domestic flights of Indigo and SpiceJet operate in T-1. The airport has three terminals T1, T2 and T3, which handle around 1,400 flights daily. Government sources said the collapsed roof at Terminal 1 was constructed during 2008-09 and GMR had given the contract for the work to private contractors.

The minister says that after investigation the technical reasons and other aspects of the incident will be known. Airport Operator Dial (AOD) will check the structure. Also DGCA will monitor the inspection and they will give a report. Further he said that all similar structures at airports across the country will be thoroughly inspected.
