Srinagar: One civilian was killed in a grenade attack that occurred at a busy market in Srinagar’s Amira Kadal Bridge on Sunday, while 24 others, including a policeman, were injured. Sources told that the attack was made on a police party. “At about 4:20 pm, terrorists hurled a grenade upon police and security forces deployment at Hari Singh High Street,” a police official said.

He said a policeman and some civilians sustained splinter injuries in the explosion. The injured were rushed to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital. The area has been cordoned off and a hunt launched to nab the culprits, the official added.

The grenade explosion happened at the Sunday market when there was a mad rush of the crowd.

Srinagar Police said that among the 24 injured, there’s a policeman and a girl, whose condition is critical.

A search for the attackers has been launched. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Political parties have strongly condemned the attack.

“Condemn this dastardly attack. People of J&K have been paying with their lives & sadly neither India nor Pakistan are doing anything to end the conflict & stop this bloodshed. My prayers are with the bereaved families & loved ones,” former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.

“I condemn this deplorable attack in the strongest possible terms. May the deceased find place in Jannat & may the injured make a complete and speedy recovery,” former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted.

Peoples Conference, J&K Apni Party and the BJP have also strongly condemned the terrorist attack.
