Gujarat Assembly polls 2022: Arvind Kejriwal to announce AAP’s Chief Ministerial candidate today

AHMEDABAD: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal will announce the name of the party’s chief ministerial candidate for next month’s Gujarat Assembly elections today. Kejriwal, who has won in Punjab after Delhi, has high hopes from the Gujarat elections as well. Giving information, the party officials said that the name of the CM candidate will be based on the opinion given by the people of the state to the party.

According to party sources, state unit president Gopal Italia, national general secretary Isudan Gadhvi and general secretary Manoj Soratihya are in the race for CM candidate from AAP. The party said in a statement on Thursday that Kejriwal is going to hold a press conference in Ahmedabad on Friday to announce the name.

Last week, Kejriwal urged people to contact the party through SMS, WhatsApp, voice mail and e-mail to give their views on who should be the chief ministerial candidate from the party in the state. Which is currently governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He had said that people can express their views till the evening of November 3 and based on their opinion, the name of the party’s chief ministerial candidate will be announced the next day.

“We will declare the results on November 4,” he had said last Saturday.

At that time, Kejriwal had also said, ‘During the Punjab elections, we had asked people who should be the next chief minister. People had taken the name of Bhagwant Mann with a huge majority and according to the wishes of the people, we made him the Chief Minister.

AAP on Thursday announced its ninth list of 10 candidates for the Gujarat elections, taking the number of candidates declared so far to 118.

Elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held next month in two phases on December 1 and December 5 while the counting of votes will be held on December 8.
